Strange that they say it is an F4U-1A, a model we never operated in the RNZAF.

I note one of the panels has what appears to be a BuNo of 88330, which would appear to be from FG-1D NZ5631, scrapped at Rukuhia.

Beat me to it, I'll delete my draft post now! How intriguing. I wonder what ID it's based on (unless it's NZ5631) - perhaps either NZ5527 or NZ5644? Strange that they say it is an F4U-1A, a model we never operated in the RNZAF. Forgive my ignorance Dave - did we have F4U-1, -1D and FG-1D?

Ah, the old F4U-1A model, the one that never existed, but it certainly seems to have a lot of believers and admirers in this World! David D

This looks to be a very substantial project, and a great starting point for someone who wants to spend a couple of million dollars restoring it.

I am told by Rob Mears that that this is the ex-Ross Jowitt second Corsair project, based on an unknown centre section recovered from blackberry bushes which he exported to the USA in 2002. Rob says, "This project includes parts from at least five different sources across NZ, all of which of course originated from Rukuhia." I suspected it might be but it has moved location since the last time I heard about it.

Did I remember correctly seeing a shot of the remaings of an RNZAF Corsair in the bush near a beach on this Forum or am I delusional?

No you are correct. And I think it might be the one being restored to static condition in Australia.

There is also the late model Corsair (four bladed prop) was given to the RNZAF as payment for some film that the A4s flew in? They swapped it for the P40 at Wigram as if wasn't the model the RNZAF flew. She is the one painted in Honduran markings and she had a wheels up landing some time back, unusual choice of music in the clip below? She's been repaired and now for sale. www.platinumfighters.com/inventory-2/1951-chance-vought-f-4u-5n-corsair Sorry to get further off topic does anyone know the film the A4s flew in and is there any footage of the flying they did for said film? Thank you.......

The skyhawks appeared in Sleeping Dogs in the '70s, doing a couple of weapons runs. Could be the movie you are thinking about.
