Based on your answers Dave and Paul, which adds to the confusion as to why the specific number of aircraft were stipulated and for what purpose, the Brits were jumping the gun a little, it seems. I guess they had to predict what they thought the British services might need, but why Australia and New Zealand? That there was never any mention in NZ planning going forward for Invaders adds to the confusion behind the mention. That it was not brought up in any other capacity following the initial report means the Brits were definitely forecasting, but again, based on what?

As an aside wouldn't it be great to see A26's on the Antipodean airshow scene in our countries markings. They arw a beast of an aircraft and personally my favourite U.S. twin.

I just re-read this thread, because I saw my first ever Douglas Invader at Oshkosh, and it was very impressive (it was just static, I did not see it flying sadly). But it led me to wonder if any New Zealanders ever flew as regular aircrew in Invaders during WWII or postwar in any of the many Air Forces that operated them, or even in civilian operation.
