Yesterday my friend who served in the RNZAF LAA Sqns during the final days of CMT told me it is his birthday next Tuesday. I thought it would be great to be able to give him the Bofors gun I started some years ago and possibly build the Chev gun towing truck if I have time. So the last pieces are being added to the Bofors today. To save display space I decided to build it in transport mode. It is a Bronco kit so well detailed but it has numerous very fragile parts and locating holes that are not quite big enough. fullsizeoutput_1bf5 by tankienz, on Flickr The Chev is a full resin kit so no way would I be able to finish it by Tuesday so I'm going to see if I can use parts of a plastic GMC and just use the key Chev detail parts to speed up the build - the axles and rear springs, bonnet sides and the cargo body. Hopefully I can convert the plastic chassis from 6x6 to 4x4 configuration. If this isn't possible it won't get done for his birthday. fullsizeoutput_1bf6 by tankienz, on Flickr

One of the many differences between a GMC and 4x4 Chev is the fuel tank mounted between the chassis frames. fullsizeoutput_1c00 by tankienz, on Flickr

Disaster. I wanted to present the combination in parade ground condition so sprayed the gun with Tamiya semi-gloss. Within minutes the paint started rippling. I have rubbed the worst pieces off so now just waiting to see how it dries. fullsizeoutput_1c02 by tankienz, on Flickr
