All the ones I have of TAF Harvards they do not have the checker unit markings. I think they must have come along very late in the piece.

Please note that although 1068 was based at Wigram from July 1950, it was at Taieri by about 1956/57, until transferred back to Wigram for Long Term Storage in August 1957. So I am presuming it was photographed in the markings of No. 4 (Otago) Squadron. As is well known, No. 3 Squadron (Wigram) had no permanent Harvards, as it was far simpler to draw a serviceable aircraft from the rather large Wigram fleet when required for flying, on a fairly casual basis. Thanks guys. I take it that NZ1074 is the Auckland Squadron judging by the badge on the fin. ANd is that a unit crest just below and slightly ahead of the windscreen? '1068' looks to have the single gun wing armament and a small blister below it. Is/ was this standard? '1092(82?) in the colour image looks to have the gun too but no blister? Finally the aerial fit looks to be standard is that right? Any more pics info out there? Many thanks and I look forward to coming back to see more replies. All the best.

paul1953, don't think there is any doubt that there is a badge on the fwd fuselage of 1074, pretty fuzzy, but almost certain to be badge of that squadron. Also rather odd that 1068 lacks a black top on engine cowling, but I guess this just signified a cowling change for some reason, and the S&S guys have not got around to getting out their favourite spray gun.
Also have a note that 1092 was with 1 TAF Squadron for a while in 1957, before being delivered to Wigram in August 1957 for Long term Storage (on closing down of the TAF), so perhaps the colour photo does indeed show this aircraft and not 1082. With the withdrawal of all the TAF P-51s in about 1956 or thereabouts, the TAF squadrons were issued a few more Harvards to keep up morale! David D

Hi. Those are some amazing images!!! Now in even more of a quandary. As for my model I have since gone for the No.1 ( Auckland) Squadron choice. ( But I can change it if pushed ) And it looks like the pics of 1058 at the end of the images above are AUckland ones. I am intrigued with the underwing bulges and gun fitting. Were these standard? Thanks for sharing those photos.

The underwing bulges were for capture of expended shells and links. Standard fit.

I think I'll go for NZ1058 since it looks like its the Auckland unit and those are the markings I have placed on the model from the Old Models Decal set. Would like to do the others but I could always change it at a later date. Meanwhile very many thanks to everyones help and the pics. Much appreciated!
