Hi All,
I just received a Special Hobby Vickers Vildebeest model,
and wanting to build it as a Camouflaged one (circa 1940- 1941ish),
I have been scouring the RNZAF Museum Photo Archive, to find
an interesting subject.
I came across this RNZAF Photo of Vincents at Waipapakauri.
fotoweb.airforcemuseum.co.nz/fotoweb/cache/5009/Collection/WhTin128frame1.t5f0d2975.m600.xdlheLWI3.jpgNow I read on the page below that Dave H has created, that
No.s 1 & 7 Gr Squadrons were based there (No. 1 as a detachment from Whenuapai),
and circa August 1940, some of these 1 GR Sqn aircraft hunted for the German Commerce
Raider Orion, which had sunk New Zealand Shipping in/around New Zealand Waters.
www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/RNZAF%20Stations%20North%20Island.htmMy question is, does anyone have any information on these Orion Hunter Vincent's?
Looking at ADF Serials, I get the following serials which could be
potential subjects
NZ307 with 1 GR Squadron Sept 1939 - Dec 1941
NZ3105 with 1 GR Squadron Nov 1939 - Feb 1941 (to 2 Gr Sqn)
NZ339 with 1 GR Squadron 1939 - 1941 then with 3 GR Squadron Harewood
NZ344 with 1 GR Squadron Oct 1940 - July 1941
NZ349 with 1 GR Squadron Oct 1940 - July 1941
NZ350 with 1 GR Squadron Dec 1939 - July 1941 (with 2 SFTS)
NZ351 with 1 GR Squadron Oct 1940 - Dec 1941
NZ355 with 1 GR Squadron Oct 1940 - Dec 1941
NZ358 with 1 GR Squadron Oct 1940 - Aug 1941
Any/all information provided very much Appreciated
Thanks/regards
Alan
