Probably not the wow factor of a Dauntless or a Kittyhawk but John Kelly sent me a clip yesterday of Auster J5 NZ1701 on a trailer going down his drive in Moana(near Nelson) on her way to the airport for final assembly and sign off by CAA (ZK-BQL). John has spent a lot of time and money rebuilding her to immaculate condition and has put her into RNZAF markings again (overall silver). I'll post some photos later.

Couple of photos not long after the fabric was applied and painted. John had the most appreciated assistance of Barf at the Air Force Museum for the RNZAF scheme. I supplied the boot cowl (essentially the aluminum cowling form the steel firewall back to the doors)which was more than appropriate being off another RNZAF Auster. I got a call from John last night. They attached one wing with no issues but then noticed the rear wing attachment on the other wing had been drilled oversize. Not unusual if due to corrosion nor wear causing a hole to be out of shape. However when he found a oversize wing pin they discovered it was bent! So he is now phoning round other Auster owners for a replacement. Ah the Joy's of old aeroplanes.
