I don't see that it's been mentioned here but the RNZAF's Boeing P-8 Poseidon is slated to make its airshow debut at Wings Over Wairarapa, and a USAF C-130J will be on static display each day.

Peter you got my point. The enthusiasts will come, probably having budgeted for such an event. It is the families that get pressure from the kids or have a last minute rush of blood to the head to attend that may balk at the costs. Lets hope there are still enough of the dedicated enthusiasts to make the days enjoyable and "break even"

With all due respect Dave, you appear to be missing the point of what I am making and possibly what Paul is too. I am discussing what many "opportunists" who may attend decide. If they think it too expensive, they probably won't come and that no doubt would include people who are considering getting into aviation as a career or a hobby. My interpretation of what Paul is saying is that those folk will spend the money on expensive essentials (groceries) and forgo a luxury such as an air show; not what deciding where they will be having lunch that day. For the record, I will be buying my lunch at the show. Anyway, the success of the show comes down to how many people attend. Let's hope it is. I have not missed your point Peter. I understand what you were saying. I was giving some very valid reasons for the increase. My quip about eating at the airshow was meant as a joke but may have gone over your head? The reality is it's not that much dearer than last time, and no-one can predict how the public will react. After all some other events are dearer for less time, such as the Elton John concert yesterday that was a sell out and tickets started at $170, for a mere few hours. And that was a sell out. Sure a few might decide the price is too high but they probably would have considered it too much to fork out had it still been at the old price if they're struggling financially. I don't think this sort of discussion on a thread that is intending to promote the show is helpful. If people cannot afford it that is their business, and the show cannot do anything about it.

Yes Dave, I think enough has been said on the pricing. We would all agree we want the show to be a success.

Yep........no NZ trip for me......no Bambi burgers, no whitebait fritters, no venison. The reallocation of the NZDF assets to the rescue/recovery effort up north shall be very welcome by everyone up there. Hopefully the postponement shall not be for too long

PRESS RELEASE
Wings Over Wairarapa Air Festival has a new date, the Masterton based festival that attracts tens of thousands from across Aotearoa as well as international visitors will now take place from 𝟐𝟒-𝟐𝟔 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑.
The festival was postponed this month due to the response and on-going recovery after Cyclone Gabrielle as well as the ongoing unpredictability of the weather.
Board Chairman and former Defence Minister Ron Mark shared that “after the decision to postpone it has been a priority for the team to work with our key stakeholders to secure a new date. With today’s announcement we can get planning underway again to deliver a world-class Air Festival based right here in the Wairarapa. Our board and management team are both humbled and grateful for the incredible support that we have received from our partners, stakeholders, ticketholders, and the wider community.”
The festival takes place every two years, drawing crowds with a large aircraft display. It was scheduled to take place from February 24 to February 26. Wings General Manager Carla Steed, confirmed “ticket holders will automatically have their tickets transferred to the new date, whilst those who are unable to make the new date will have a 14 day window to request a full refund. We really appreciate the support we have received, and hope that the community continues to get behind the festival.”
As well as the spectacular air display programme, Wings Over Wairarapa Air Festival also features the Take Flight programme – an interactive STEM education programme that provides engaging activities and demonstrations to school aged children on the Friday and is also available for all visitors on Saturday and Sunday. The aim of the programme is to inspire and engage tamariki and rangatahi to consider STEM pathways, with a large focus on aviation and aerospace. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞?
All tickets remain valid for the new dates announced. Please note, tickets already purchased will have February dates but the all-important QR code will continue to work.
For those who are unable to make the new date, email support@eventfinda.co.nz before midnight Sunday 12 March to request a refund.
