Well well. In the episode of The Airplane Geeks that came out today they were talking about a major shortage of aviation fuel that is affecting everyone right now, because during the COVID crisis the oil companies stopped making it, and turned production over to diesel manufacturing. So there is no reserves of it, and it's running out. And now NZ is totally 100% reliant on having to source it from abroad, as they cannot produce it here now with the refinery closed down. So just watch, the prices of aviation fuels will suddenly start to skyrocket I expect, and that means airline tickets, air cargo haulage and everything else in the chain will go up. Well effing done you clowns.

Oil companies have not stopped making aviation fuel. The problem is delivery, especially in the US where there is a shortage of truck drivers to deliver it. Errol

Apart from anything else the price is going to increase worldwide, when and if airlines get back to flying anything like the amount they did pre-covid. As demand rises so will costs.
The problem for NZ could be if it’s still seen as a viable market... A the end of a long supply chain, with a total population less than most cities worldwide, an unknown future for the economy and already with costly delays at ports some companies may not consider it worth the hassle. This is not even taking into account the business ‘threat’ of a socialist government who may raise duty and taxes on a whim.

A factor here is that international agreements about not burning petroleum sludge in ocean-going ships are kicking in, and demand for diesel has increased for that reason.
