Yeah I noticed it vanished too. Hopefully Wigram got their flypast. Whenuapai and Ohakea seem to have gotten a good beat up run each, and I expect Woody Valley would have too.

Wigram did get her fly past, at around 1500ft but fast and loud, got video on my phone but it’s below average! Was hoping she would be lower but the wind had picked up

As Peter states above there are often differences between actual arrival dates and "Taken on Charge" dates for various aircraft From the AF380 the BOC dates for the Orions are as follows: NZ4201 1/8/66, NZ4202 1/8/66, NZ4203 4/1/67, NZ4204 4/1/67, NZ4205 4/1/67, NZ4206 24/6/85. Interesting in that the first five were recorded as being BOC by Hobsonville. (Hobby was the site of the main store recording facility at that time) NZ4206 has no unit assigned for the BOC. Extracts from Whenuapai Station History: The first Orion, NZ4201, arrived at Whenuapai 27 September 1966 from the US, captained by Wg Cdr M S Gunton. The aircraft flew to Wellington for the official welcome by the Prime Minister, and returned to Auckland the same day. Whenuapai History The second Orion, NZ4202, arrived from the US 10 December 1966, captained by Flt Lt P K Simpson. Whenuapai History The third Orion, NZ4203, arrived from the US on 11 December 1966, captained by Sqdn Ldr T E Enright. Whenuapai History The fourth Orion, NZ4204, arrived from the US on 12 December 1966, captained by Flt Lt J B Irvine. Whenuapai History The fifth Orion, NZ4205, arrived from the US on 14 December 1966, captained by Wg Cdr D B Flintoff. Whenuapai History I did the first Instrument trade after flight on '05, after being signed out two days earlier.I was authorised to service, replenish oxygen, and shortly after, to start and run the APU. Heady stuff for an eighteen year old.

Believe NZ4206 is next. Can someone confirm her actual date of arrival in New Zealand?

Hi Les, from my book "Kiwi Orions" it looks as though NZ4206 was delivered ex-Aust on 2 May 1985. My boss at the time Wing Commander Mike Spring signed for the aircraft at Edinburgh and as I recall they left the same day or the day after.

Does anyone know when 4206 will be retired? Assume/hope there’s another flypast?

I was on the delivery flight which flew Edinburgh-Whenuapai on 3 May 1985, Wg Cdr Ric Bulger was the captain. A blast from the past as it had all the original P3B equipment installed down the back after we had been operating with the Rigel upgrade by then

I think my dad was on the flight too, he mentioned something about being on one of the delivery flights, we'd not long been back from Seattle. We were up there for Fincastle at the time weren't we? That's the only trip to Scotland that I remember for him around that time.

He went to Fincastle up in Scotland around the same time so figured I had got it all completely mixed up.

Nice tribute video. When the P-3 goes on display at Wigram will it keep its grey scheme , does anyone know?

Nice tribute video. When the P-3 goes on display at Wigram will it keep its grey scheme , does anyone know? 'Barf' at the museum is probably already making up the stencils for the obligatory 'sharks teeth' for the P-3 Orion. May even do the same with the C-130 they're getting...

I think that would be RAAF Base, Edinburgh Australia, not Edinburgh Scotland It would probably have helped if I said he was (I think) Maintenance Commander at the time. Unsure if that was the exact title but he had the little office at the front corner of the hangar with the Fincastle dates painted on the outside.
