Does that imply that the content will be limited to the 'news' part of the publication?

The publication will stay the same but will be online only, with John editing.
According to John, "Aviation News will be a separate section, and subscribers will have access to that part only at $8.99/month without having to pay the $399/year for the full NBR. The change in content will be minimal, and it will also let me publish this considerable backlog of historical material that's been building up. Back issues of Aviation News will also be online, so rummaging for something you read years ago will be easier."

That sounds pretty reasonable, glad to hear the historical content is staying.

Mine arrived today, and it says:
"If you're an Aviation News subscriber, the balance of your subscription will be transferred to an nbr.co.nz premium monthly subscription (worth $35/month). This will give you full access to Aviation News content plus the entire nbr.co.nz website, via any device, for the remainder of your subscription."
There is no mention of the $8.99/month for Aviation News only content, which I will have to pursue, as I don't need the NBR stuff. Maybe they will be sending us a subscriber email with more content imminently?

I honestly don't know, I suspect you'll have to ask John directly once the dust settles. I've always enjoyed dealing with the team there, having visited the offices a few years back to put faces to email contacts, they have always been prompt in responding. I'd send a query if I were you before they are sent packing!

Its probable that the revised subscription fee of $8.99 monthly was negotiated after the October edition had been committed to the printer.

Well then its not Aviation News if they are going to get rid of all the team that made it what it is. Bunch of pencil necked political journos going to try and write stuff about an industry they prob know stuff all about.

I've seen nothing that says the whole team is going. The change relates to the production process and obviously with no print edition, print layout is not part of the process. Assurances have been given that the standard of reporting is not changing and the editor is not going anywhere. No one has mentioned the political journos trying to write about the aviation industry, so let's wait and see where this goes.

"While John stays with AV NEWS, and email from Donna tells me that the rest of the team are to become unemployed."
Quote from prev page that says rest of the team.

There were normally four people in the office that were involved in the production of the AV NEWS when I was acting editor. Donna, John (or myself if standing in) and two of the other girls that developed the adverts and checked the layout prior to forwarding to the printers.

Bunch of pencil necked political journos going to try and write stuff about an industry they prob know stuff all about. Well, I hope not, Ned! As far as I know it's just admin staff who are being let go. NZAvNews wasn't a big affair, John was the only full-time staff writer, relying on freelancers for content, as it remains today.

I am probably the last to leave; here's why:
"Just as your business is likely being hit by the increased cost of doing business, so too is the National Business Review.
Because of that, we are unfortunately having to increase the cost of your NZ Aviation News subscription from $8.95 per month to $14.95. This change takes effect from the commencement of your next billing cycle."

That is very expensive when you consider the cost of the paper version that was a joy to read every month!

I've been unable to access AV News since it went digital and am curious to learn if their have been any significant changes to the content under new ownership

Here is the content of my cancellation email (which was accepted promptly). It will give you an idea of what it has become:
"Hi Todd,
Sorry to advise I will not be continuing with NBR Subscription. I am now aged 77 (a pensioner) and no longer involved in business management, so have no justification in keeping up with all that transpires. My interest was with Aviation News for over 40 years, but that has turned out to be a bit of a fizzer nowadays, with little but corporate handouts and press releases utilised.
I wish to terminate my subscription forthwith.
Please acknowledge."
