One went past Cambridge at very low level today, my mate Mike saw it and said it was really low. I heard it but couldn't see it. Yeah I’m in Tamahere and it seemed low enough to touch, just about. |

Just in from the 5 Sqn Association: "NZ4206 will not be departing on her last flight on 13 December 2021. Aircraft and crew are stuck in Brunei awaiting an engine. The Squadron will let us know the updated plan when they have more information." |

It won't be a new one, they've got some spares off the first retiree (actually there will likely be one available from stores)

Indeed, it does seem silly in that sense. But if they didn't recover it, then the airport parking fees start ramping up and that's how you end up with derelict aircraft on airports being sold for scrap value.

That engine will soon be back in the spares system with all the other parts that the aircraft will donate (or perhaps the parts will be sold overseas).

According to Air Chathams guys, those T-56's (& Allison 501s) and their props still fetch a pretty penny or two, I wouldn't be surprised when the last Orion lands their engines will live on offshore.
