(WLUK) -- Helicopter manufacturer Enstrom is shutting down. The company says Friday will be its last day. It has been in business for 64 years. Enstrom plans to declare Chapter 7 bankruptcy, citing "several financial difficulties." "I can't say enough about the team of people we have here," president Matt Francour said in a news release. "They’ve continued to work throughout the pandemic and our financial difficulties to get aircraft out the door and supply parts and technical support to our large in-service fleet. Their dedication to our customers is truly special." The company delivered its last two helicopters to the Peru Air Force in December. It stopped taking new orders for parts and supplying overhauls on Jan. 7. Technical support was to end on Wednesday. The company built more than 1,300 helicopters in its history. Francour says groups have expressed interest in buying Enstrom's assets out of bankruptcy and restarting the company. A company spokesperson says about 125 people were laid off in the last two years.

That's a shame and I truly feel for those out of work, but they could come back. Hiller did!

That's a shame. They have a very distinctive design, especially the rotor head.

I believe New Zealand's first example was Enstrom F-28A ZK-HIE which I have as registered on 6 August 1974 but it crashed into Lake Rotorua on 21 August 1974. Of the three on board, two died but the sole survivor, thanks to being a strong and regular swimmer, was Fred Ladd who was a passenger. Look at aviation-safety.net/wikibase/62021
