That's sad So what happens now? Major sell-off?

I suspect the cars went back to their original owners and presumably the aircraft will remain in the hangar for when the next museum or iteration of such a thing will take place at Luggate. The fortunate thing is that there remains a core of interested individuals at Wanaka, so we might see them on display again in future. Just as long as the Toy and Transport Museum doesn't get them - that place is purgatory for aeroplanes.

Can the whereabouts of the aircraft be confirmed?
From what I've read: - The Hurrincane was spotted heading north by some forumites last year(?). Going where?; - The SE5a was supposed to be heading to the RNZAF Museum at Wigram;
And I would assume the Vampire will also go back the RNZAF Museum as well.
Any corrections?

The replica Hurricane is owned by TVAL and went into their hangar at Omaka.

The Vampire, Skyhawk and Strikemaster went back to Wigram. Unsure what their plans are for them. They already have nice examples of each on display so probably looking for a new home.

Ahh good stuff. Good to hear they are being looked after and not sitting abandoned in Wanaka.

The AJD Engineering-built SE.5a popped up at Ardmore a month or two back.

COVID totally destroyed our tourism industry. A large proportion of the businesses that relied on tourism have either collapsed or are just teetering on the brink. This museum is one of lots of cool places that are now history.
The Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow was cancelled in 2020 and cancelled again this year both due to the government response to the virus - in 2020 we were all locked down at home, and this year they are restricting any gatherings to a maximum of 100 people, making them impossible.

Dave, I feel for everyone there and it was just the same here. I think now that even the recalcitrant premiers have come to the conclusion that Covid Zero is a myth and we all have to live with it and we will all get it. Like the flu every year we shall need a shot for it. Love to say something but..........I just want to have my life back

I'm sorry, but if the government took a different path the results are not worth thinking about. It's worth noting that we are not the only country in the world that is suffering from this. If COVID got let loose in this country the hospitals would be overflowing and there is currently a shortage of nursing staff, so it would be bad, really bad. Read about the spread of the Spanish flu after WW1, particularly what happened between the two Samoas and their different approaches: shortformernie.medium.com/samoa-spanish-flu-history-948ed1ec0401www.rnz.co.nz/international/pacific-news/375404/how-nz-took-influenza-to-samoa-killing-a-fifth-of-its-populationNew Zealand merchant ships were responsible for spreading the Spanish flu around the Pacific and as far afield as South Africa. My partner has been involved in the COVID response here in Nelson, she's a nurse and has worked at the vaccination clinics, so she keeps me informed as to why the government's approach in not letting it run rampant is sensible. We are a small country within which the virus would absolutely ravage the population, let alone the results from suffering from the disease. It doesn't end with just getting over it. The big problem is the speed by which it spreads. Also, it does permanent damage to our respiratory system and weakens our immune system so even if we get it and recover, our chances of getting other respiratory diseases, such as pneumonia increase considerably. A friend of mine in Berlin got it in 2020, she finds it difficult to walk for long periods owing to shortness of breath. This isn't some random flu, the toll on our economy from a sick workforce would be devastating - look at what's happening elsewhere.

I totally agree with nuuumannn.
Dave, it's hard to keep politics from the Forum when phrases like "our government's response" are used. "Live with it" is not an option for the many otherwise healthy people who have succumbed to this virus.
We need to accept that we are at war with an invisible enemy invader. We need to be on a war footing in the same way as the Allies were in WWII.
I hear regularly on the news how the tourism and hospitality industries want a clear direction and plan from our government, and I am sick of the media promulgating dissent and politicking. Thanks to New Zealand's isolation and government policies we have so far avoided the devastation that has befallen less fortunate countries. Let's not throw away that trump card for entertainment - be it a music festival, sports fixture or air show.

Get off the grass you two. I was not making a political statement for or against anything, I was merely stating facts to answer the question. Stop reading what isn't there and making up the rest in your heads.

But the museum I feel was doomed from the start. The Alpine fighter collection was the pull – once it was gone it is very hard to have a warbirds museum with very few aircraft

I too totally agree with Nuuumannn who was merely spelling out what his partner's professional experience first hand. What he says is worth reading in full. Dave, to say "Covid totally destroyed our tourism industry" is an unnecessary exaggeration. That is hardly the sort of description New Zealand needs to broadcast to our followers world-wide.
