There was a fly past early on with an IL76 tanker and a bomber plus fighter bombers' As for the colonies, they only fly the territory east of Donnesk. Any where else they will get shot down, even out in the Black Sea.

Supposedly they were claiming a last minute cancellation due to weather, which seems a bit dubious given as you say it looks like it was pretty good weather the whole time.

They practiced for a month for the parade and, I am led to believe, did a massed practice fly-past over Moscow the day before....just very strange that the announcement of the bad weather cancellation was made with Mr Putin in bright sunshine....not as if they did not have the aircraft actually there. Sounds like BS to me

Sounds like BS to me The aircrew were perhaps urgently called away to carry out yet another 'special military operation' to destroy yet more Ukranian homes, hospitals, schools and kindergartens. Doubtless Little Stalin will in due course decorate many of them for their 'courageous' endeavours. Errol

Another left field theory is that there may have been a hint of a 'problem' in the Air Force ranks and to avoid the potential of that problem escalating, the flypast was cancelled

I'm always amused by the number of medals and decorations that the Russian military leaders have on their uniforms, they all seem to have big star shaped insignia and row upon row of medals. North Korea is another example of the practice along with several other Asian countries. They are not the only ones who do it ,when it comes to medals some countries seem be very generous at handing them out, I counted TEN rows of medal ribbons on a US general in a recent photo. I think the most I have seen on a Brit is 2 1/2 rows. when you get a large number it belittles the significance of them and makes a mockery of the awards system

Plus the outlandish hats that would cater for a vertical take-off and landing aircraft!!!!
