Can anyone tell what colour was used on the scorpions that were painted on the tails of some 41 Sqn Freighters? At least 5903 & 5906 received this zap.
What was the reason behind the marking?
Also was the '41' in the squadron band red - like 42 Sqn Daks?

Operation Scorpion was the RNZAF assistance to the New Zealand contribution to aid in Thailand in the early 1960s as part of the SEATO alliance. The scorpion logo was painted in black and was first applied at Korrat by one of the detachment navigators Rodney Bracefield. As the aircraft were rotated back to Singapore and NZ for major overhauls to replacement aircraft acquired the logo.

Correction, on looking at some of the photos, the scorpion was in red. The two cheat lines on the fin were the same colour as the cheat line on the fuselage i.e deep blue.
