'Catch’ may be bomber
PA Palmerston North
A four-metre section of an aircraft dragged from the sea off Foxton Beach yesterday may be part of an R.N.Z.A.F. Hudson bomber missing since 1943. The wreckage was “caught” in a trawler net on Sunday night and will be taken to Ohakea Air Force Base today for closer inspection.
At the salvage scene, Squadron Leader Rick Bulger, from Defence Department headquarters in Wellington, said he believed the remains belonged to a Hudson which disappeared in the area with a five-man crew during a training exercise out of Ohakea.
