Inquiries are being made about various Wessex helicopters in New Zealand. These ones do not concern the five examples based at Classic Flyers in 2018 and 2019. David McCartney of England is trying to track down some of four other examples (all Mk60s) which apparently have been in New Zealand and had been in a film "Full Metal Jacket" The four involved in this inquiry have worn identities: G-AWOX c/n WA/686 9G-DAN c/n WA/739 G-AZBY c/n WA/740 G-AZBZ c/n WA/741 Comprehensive identities trails of these are included on: www.helis.com/database/model/Westland-Wessex/cn?page=4One of these, apparently G-AZBY, is in storage in the Ferrymead Aeronautical Society collection in Christchurch www.helis.com/database/cn/13963/ indicates that G-AWOX was reduced to spares at Weston-Super-Mare England by 1994. Could substantial parts of this helicopter subsequently been sent to New Zealand. In summary, can anyone shed any light (confirm) on the fate or possible whereabouts of any of these helicopters, particularly so in New Zealand?

Further to Peter's post above, I also have had contact with David as he had been led to believe that 9G-DAN was/is the one we have at Ferrymead which it isn't. The confusion seems to have originated based on 9G-DAN being in red thus when it arrived in the country and our one ending up being painted in red when it was in the bottle store car park. (Ours arrived in its "warpaint" from the movie making.) David has a subsequent photo of 9G-DAN parted out and stripped to bare metal and that's where his trail runs cold.

Day 9, Tuesday - Ferrymead and Harewood Ferrymead - The ony accessable aircraft at the time was the hull of Westland Wessex G-AZBY/5N-ALR/G-AZBY/G-17-5 at the back of one of the buildings. This was marked up as 'ZK-IDL' when it was an advertising item for the Imperial Discount Liquor Store in Christchurch from 2002 to 2007

Talking with our rotor team about this mysterious parted out and nude Wessex they provided me with this photo taken on a recent visit to Daniel Smith's helicopter collection, to pick up surplus bits for "ZK-IDL". They were led to believe that this is one of the "Full Metal Jacket" ones and in fact that it was the one that flew in the movie. But perhaps it is the one that David in the UK thinks is 9G-DAN stripped out?.
