Hi, Service record NZ10326. He trained as a pilot on aircraft carriers towards the end of ww2. He joined when was 18 and died in 2001. He was born in Picton then moved to katikati, bay of plenty. How can I find details of where he trained and served? I know he travelled to England... and met his future wife in Oxford. Thanks mel

Looks like a Fleet Air Arm man (Royal Navy, but RNZNVR), Errol M might care to comment.

Thanks mel From the 'Airmen Sailing to War' appendix to Vol Three of my For Your Tomorrow trilogy: 8 Feb 45 Themistocles Auckland-Liverpool via PC, arr 8 Apr. 20 Naval Airmen for FAA pilot training – survived: Bennett, P J; Cameron, D A; Campbell, D N; Campbell, W B; Cotterell, J H; Evans, R M; Gilliver, A W; Gold, A; Hotter, J S; Jones, Paul R; Jones, Philip R; Lyons, J P; Moir, T J; Murphy, M L; Neale, I; Robertson, D E; Shirley, G J; Stevens, R J; Waldron, M R; Western, J E; (20). So would have been too late to have been flying off carriers before war's end. Have you requested a free copy of his service record as held by Personnel Records, NZDF? The Fleet Air Arm Museum in England may also be able to assist? Cheers, Errol
