There has been some criticism of this kit on the net owing to its simplicity and lack of opening doors etc. Having just built one in RNZAF colours, I think its a huge improvement over the old Airfix Kit and the various conversions available for it. quite a few resin bits, nicely detailed (and quite visible) cockpit. Yes it could do with some internal details BUT ONLY IF you intend to open those doors up. Beware the tailwheel components they are fragile...have broken this one's about 4 times during construction. A SAFE Bristol would also look pretty good I reckon! Harry, again you've taken my breath away. She's gorgeous! My own Airfix-Kiwi Resins one is stalled thanks to the SAFE decals not fitting despite the whole thing coming as a package from the decal manufacturer (one guess as to who made them) so it's encouraging to see a finished example to your high standard.
The serial font looks different to what I expected - is that the kit's version?

A SAFE Air model will need the cowls off and Al and Marty tinkering with the engine to make it even better.

Harry, I note that you have included an astrodome on the top rear fuselage in you model. Although I have seen early photos of NZ5902 in this configuration which indicates that it was a dual pilot version, in the later camouflaged photos the astrodome is missing. See the air force museum photo collection (search using NZ5902) and there are two pics of it in later finish sans astrodome

Perhaps the only thing to add to both models is lots of exhaust staining on both engine nacelles. The magnificent sleeve valve engines leaked oil everywhere. There is a famous airforce saying that if there is no oil around the nacelles on a freighter you have problems V's oil on a dakota engine nacelle equals a problem!

That's quite a good looking kit with good detail and shape. Looks great.

Ps. Didn't any of the Freighters have an astrodome in the cockpit roof?

No astrodome in the cockpit roof, there was a clear raised blister as part of the hatch at the signaller's position which gave access to the top of the fuselage. It also provided natural light to the very cramped signalers "office"

Very nice 'Biffo'. I take it the camo was hand painted. If so, you have done a nice job.
