The RAN never wanted the "Type 26," it was just the best hull to leverage off to build the full spectrum warship they wanted. Luckily the Brits decided to adopt the Mk 41 VLS and Mk45 Mod 4 gun, making things a lot easier. Better than the Hobart class? (Serious Question, I don't know) Well, the hull and propulsion machinery of the Hunters are a much newer design (by a few decades), and CEAFAR is a 2010/20's technology active phased array while the Hobart's SPY-1 passive phased array is from a much earlier era. But while the Hobarts ae tagged "air warfare destroyers" they are ASW and ASuW capable as well.

Since this thread is a about missile, I think it's appropriate to place here in regard to the reannouncement of Tomahawk for the ADF www.news.com.au/national/australia-one-of-three-nations-to-acquire-tomahawk-strike-missiles/video/27237bb04af1dacb63c968cabb3927acWhilst I do not think the missiles themselves are a white elephant for the ADF, I think the ADF ability to deploy them in meaningful numbers is a different question altogether. We have 3 AWD that have to be upgraded to employ these but also at the same time these ship(s) will also have to defend themselves taking valuable single spots with only 48 cells to begin with. Until AusGov gets fair dinkum about not only MFU fleet numbers but also the number of cells that can give a capability that is only tokenism, Beijing must be quaking in their boots at this announcement.

In the longer term, though, any RAN surface combatant with AEGIS and Mk 41 VLS will be able to launch them.
