I heard rumours of some early aviating in the are around Marton, so I asked the local Historical Society if they had any information. They kindly came back with the attached images. Seaforth MacKenzie, who flew this aircraft on several occasions apparently, died in an aircraft attack 26 Jan 1918 on a german base in WW1. (Seaforth was a common first name amongst the Mackenzies from that region). See pages 146-147 of my Vol One and 245-256 of my Vol Two of A Passion for Flight – New Zealand aviation before the Great War for a full account of Seaforth (and his brother Hector) McKenzie's aviation activities, Vol Two also records Seaforth's death in WWI.
