With my upcoming Wings Over Britain tour and the resulting series it will result in coming up in June-July, a few people have asked me if I am going to run a Go-Fund-Me type thing to help raise some cash for the trip. But I have been considering a bit of an idea and wonder what you think of it.
Making a podcast costs money. Getting to places to do the recordings. Paying for the server that hosts the shows. Paying the annual costs of having the edit suite program. There are definitely costs involved. And there is also a great deal of time devoted to it, both in recording and especially editing a podcast episode. And then in the promotional marketing for each episode too.
A lot of podcasters these days seem to offset their costs by creating Members Only clubs for their series. Interested fans of the show can pay a small regular fee to join, while those who do not want to pay for it can continue to get the regular free episodes. Most use Patreon to set up their clubs.
I am wondering, would it be worth my while setting one up? Would you join a WONZ Show Members Club?
I am thinking in return for you joining, at maybe $5 per month, I could possibly offer club members extras such as:
But I don't know... Being a fairly niche podcast focusing on NZ aviation, is there really enough interest to warrant a Members Club? Would you join? I mean genuinely, would you actually join such a group? Would you get excited by the things that it might offer? And would this idea be worth investing more of my time into?
Please share your thoughts.

- Early access to each episode, a week before it goes on general release
- Some bonus clips that are not released to the public
- Maybe monthly Zoom meets for members to chat about the latest aviation news
- Perhaps a Wings Over Britain video blog during the trip
- Perhaps some early bird specials for WONZ Forum Meets
- Offer polls about future show ideas
- Or let Members suggest shows
- Let members know before a show is recorded who the subject and topic is so they can send their questions
- Maybe eventually some merchandise like t-shirts
