Yes, I only just learned about this magazine when I received one two days ago out of-the-blue from Veterans Affairs, with an invitation to subscribe (free issue). So I reckon to follow that up.

Talking about things for free don't forget that Veterans Affairs will also get your lawns mowed(fortnightly) garden dug (2 hours a month) ,house washed and gutters cleaned (twice a year), podiatry visits, medical alarm, household help and it's there for just one phone call . the only proviso is that you have to have served(Regular, Territorial,CMT)makes no difference). There is no means test give them a call 0800 483 8372 and they will set it up for you

So Shorty, do you mean even people like me who served in the RNZAF but I am not a veteran as I did not serve operationally overseas?

Just as I suspected.
"You're not able to get any support, services or entitlements from us."
Damn, I guess that means I will have to mow the lawn as usual.

Yep, Dave it's for all those that have served, no matter if you were a regular, Territorial, CMT, (just as long as you didn't get a dishonorable discharge. It's called the VIP program (Veterans Independent Programme), no paperwork, all done over the phone all you need is your service number.

Damn, wish I knew about that while Dad was still alive. Would have helped him and Mum a lot around the house. Now she's alone it's a bit of a struggle for her to keep up with everything.

For the sake of a phone call it might be worth an ask regarding spouses entitelment. The answer will probably be no but you never know.

I can vouch for the support VA gives. Our neighbour who did plus 20 years in the army, including a stint at Singapore in the 1970s, has some health problems and approached VA recently. He is now getting his housed cleaned once a fortnight, lawns mowed, gutters cleaned every six months and other support that he can all on. A positive recognition of service given to the country.
