A couple more progress pics: most of the paint is now on, just have to sit down and print some decals - including the stripes. The cabin windows will be done with "Krystal Kleer" later.

Nice work Bruce.
You've done a fantastic job by the looks on all the mods, especially the nose which wouldn't have been easy.
Tim.

That looks great Bruce. Excellent.
Not really necessary but... all it needs is the NATTS crest on the tail, which was a winged head (like Greek mythology) on a compass similar to 40 Sqn's. I was surprised to see the crest isn't on Sean's page of RNZAF crests. I can't find a good photo either.

The crest is on Seans squadron crests thread, but it didnt appear in any of the photos I had, which I believe were early in the F27 careers, and therefore I chose not to use one. It would look pretty good though! As we were dicussing, I think the walkway patterns on top of the wing changed later as well - this is the early pattern. If we can get a picture, I might print the crest next time I'm doing some decals - its easy enough to add later! cheers.

Ah, it didn't come up when i looked at the thread again, but it was probably the only one that failed to load for me. I'll look again.
Yes i guess as we discussed the extra walkway paint may have been added as a result of an accident. I never heard of anyone falling off an F-27 wing, but believe it or not I do recall one poor blighter fell off the tail of a Boeing 727 when he was cleaning it!

Wow Bruce
That is one cool looking F-27, I always thought the RNZAF's ones looked the best in that scheme and you sure have done it justice.
Fantastic job, look forward to your next build!!
Cheers

Imagine how cool the F-27's would have looked if they'd stayed in long enough to get the low viz markings and all over grey of the Orions, they'd look awesome.
I always have had a soft spot for the three old girls of NATTS, despite them deafening me when their engines were run up inside my hangar!

The Friendship has such an important place in NZ aviation history. I found some NAC F27 1:72 decals (the later version) www.plasticmodels.com/kpitem.asp?ItemCode=FLP72-25I think the later version is more colourful and more attractive than the older white/red lines.

I remember seeing the Godwit - tailed Friendships in that scheme come into Hamilton when I was a little kid - then they changed to having the koru. I reckon those decals are for the classic Kiwi Friendship scheme. (Is that Hamilton in the photo?)

The decals are the final NAC scheme I believe. I also remember the Godwit; as a kid we flew on an NAC Godwit-tailed Boeing 737 to AKL from CHC. My first air sickness case (I put it down to excitement, sweet cordial drink and NAC hard boiled lollies). At the Air NZ consolidation, the Air NZ tail scheme was applied but left in the NAC colour scheme. It is the Hamilton Airport terminal, I'm unsure of the date. According to the Hamilton Airport website www.hamiltonairport.co.nz/main.cfm?id=59 there is a book available: If you wish to obtain a copy of the publication "Rukuhia - The Growth of Hamilton's International Airport" contact Colin Zuppicich Ph+64 7 855 9409 colin.zuppicich@xtra.co.nz

The 'Wings of the Nation' logo was the final scheme prior to the NAC/Air NZ merger.

Did you realise NAC was international. Mum and Dad flew on the last NAC flight ever to Norfolk Island in 1977.
