The decals are Flying Kiwis, and as much as I hate to bag a local product, they are somewhat disappointing. The wing walkway markings are about a centimetre too short spanwise (the wiggly bit on the port wing is an extra decal insertion to make up the difference), the rest of the markings are slightly undersize, the font on the two digit nose serial is incorrect, and the squadron markings are portrayed incorrectly as silhouettes only rather than stencils. Then I won't tell you that I've almost finished artwork for 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 F-16s (what-if) and A-4s (Kahu all green scheme) - all taken from official drawings and photos, and plan to have all these available for the IPMS Nationals in mid-May next year... Originally I was hanging out for the promised 1:72 'last day' sets from Gekko Graphics but they never came to pass. Your new decal sets sound good, I'd definitely be interested in checking those out once they are available. A 1/32 Kiwi F-16 would be cool .

Tamiya make a colour called Nato green, can't quite remember the number off the top of my head. It is quite a close match, if a bit dark. I think mixed with field gray it would be extremely close. It looks darker in real life. Many greens from many manufacturers were considered or trialled. Still don't know why it is called grey though .

Nice job so far BTW. I have '01 underway in 1/48 myself. Thanks

the green / grey issue isnt new, the RAF coastal command dark sea grey (as used on RNZAF Singapores, Sunderland 3s and Walrus) is most definitely a green - just with a greyish tinge! awesome looking Skyhawk by the way!

Weathering proceeding. First shot using chalk pastels, which promptly disappeared when clear coated with Tamiya clear rattlecan. Second attempt, using a different clear coat (Citadel purity seal), with much better results. First time using chalk pastels, surprised at how easy it is and happy with the results so far. Still, looking forward to doing the gold T-bird scheme which is next in line. High gloss, clean..... ;D

Looking good Sam. Yes, pastels are a godsend for weathering, especially mud on vehicles etc.
Why is the back darker green? Was that replacement panels on that particular aircraft?

Why is the back darker green? Was that replacement panels on that particular aircraft? Presumably, although I really have no idea. Every picture I have of that aircraft from the 2000-01 period shows those panels being much darker than the rest of the airframe though. Makes an interesting comparison with '05, which was very clean and uniform in colour.

Moving house over Christmas caused another halt to work on this. Anyway, another update: On its feet, at the point where I start wondering which fiddly/delicate-bit-that-is-easily-broken-off I will add next. This decision process took some time, and one or two beers Still most of them have now been added safely: Just a couple of things left to do and it is all done Makes a big change from the pile of bits at the start of the thread

Finally finished Thanks for the tip about the often forgotten intake lesterpk, one was dutifully fabricated and is just visible here The landing light was left over from a Hasegawa 1/48 F-4, and the D-704 is a Ron's Resins item. All of the aerials aside from the RWR are simple plastic card cut outs. The decals were something of a disappointment unfortunately, undersize and silver prone. Time to move on to the next thing

Fantastic work there, Sam.
Do you know what your next project is going to be?

Excellent! You must be pleased as punch.
Was the paint really peeling off the tank that badly on the real ones? No wonder the less intelligent thought they were 'clapped out'.

Looks really good, I like the buddy store, that's much more interesting than a plain 400 gal tank, where did you get it from?

Thanks Phil, the buddy store is from here: www.smmodels.comGo to the accessories page, and then on to the 'Ron's Resins' 1/72nd listing. These guys are based in Melbourne so are relatively close. Apparently the 1/72 Italeri KA-6 tanker Intruder kit has a buddy store as well, but I don't know that for certain.

Fantastic work there, Sam. Do you know what your next project is going to be? Thanks Corsair. Good question. I'm halfway through a gold T-bird, but was thinking about starting my Macchi conversion for an enthusiasm injection. I never have one thing on the bench anyway, plus a sizeable stash to choose from. If its Kiwi it'll turn up on these pages sooner or later! ;D
