To follow below, I did a search to find if I had seen this aircraft on my visits to the USA in the 1970's.
Along the way I found other websites/ forums that presented issues with the B17's and there were some likely to be grounded. We must remember that is aircraft was a firebomber and often subject to some turbulent flights with a heavy load of fire fighting compound but in the end how much should you push time.
The owners have taken a very brave decision to take this aircraft apart and send it to New Zealand and it's possible that other owners will take the same decision to extend the life of their aircraft.

Don't forget 'Swamp Ghost' recent visit, albeit shipbound and transitting via Tauranga to the US.

We ought to be able to "kick the tires and light the fires" "She flew in, she'll fly out" I wouldn't assume that the engines will arrive here on the same ship as the airframe. Yes if they need to be overhauled they would surely be staying in the US. Nobody in NZ nor Australia that I've heard of currently overhauls any of the Wright Cyclone range. Brendon Deere shipped his R2800 from the Avenger to the US for that reason. Possibly the props could be done here but might make sense just to do them in US as well.

Just a quick query about baz62's post almost immediately above, with reference to Brendon Deeres' Wright Cyclone engine being sent to the USA. I am presuming he meant to type R-2600 rather than 2800?

Well that puts a different light on it. Perhaps all those throwing their toys will calm down now

That sounds like a more practical scenario.
