Hi guys Well everyone (I am sure?) has one of those projects that goes on for years, you know, pick it up and make something then burn out for a month or so and then do it all again next month. Well this is one of those, so please dont expect lots of updates because I simply am really slow and want to get every detail right cos it dosent come naturally for me like it does others to scratchbuild stuff. The gun muzzle area is all wrong in the kit so I reworked it. Cutting Edge intakes had the trunking ground out and inserted into the kit ones (they needed their profile modified when viewed down as they were flat, this was done with superglue) Modified fin tip with strengthening plates added and also the rudder top is slightly higher and at a different angle.

As you can see from the previous fin photo the rudder hinges havent been reworked to look right. This is the VERY tedious job of scratchbuilding new wheel wells The step in the wing where the slats go was faired in and panels rescribed and rollers for the slat rails inserted. Scratchbuilt flaps, modified tailplanes and notice the scratchbuilt pylon adapter for the winder rail at the edge of photo. Thanks for looking

Not sure how to tackle the wing vanes/fences yet as they look a little chunky. Here are the new wheels I made and had cast as well as the nosecap starting to be built up(quite a bit of work to be done there with latches etc..... Here is the Maverick (TGM-65? out of my Hornet kit, this will look way cooler on my Skyhawk) Is anyone bored yet? ?

Actually looking at that last photo I see I forgot to reprofile/thin out the Maverick fins. Scratchbuilt a 400gal centreline fueltank, added fillercaps, drains, panels and weld seams. Now I dont think I will use it!!! And I just love this photo! It came from Matthew at the RNZAF Museum at Wigram, a great guy. Well there you have it. If anyone has any questions I will be to try and answer them Regards Anthony

Sweet work so far Anthony.
Did you have to re-scribe all the panel lines? If so you've done a great job on them Drop tank looks great as well
Looking forward to seeing more

Anthony, you have certainly put a hell of a lot of work into that kit, and it looks great. Thanks for sharing the photos with us. I know it's very early in the piece, but have you decided which colour scheme you'll use on your Skyhawk?

Thanks guys
Yes, I am going to do either 6254 or 56 in the green/grey lizard scheme. I always thought that was the nicest scheme they were ever painted in.
Calum, yes I have rescribed about 90% of the fuse & wings now, and done some rivetting with a "rosie the rivetter" and a jewellers beading tool (this leaves very tiny circles stamped into the surface), just enough depth so that it will be barely visible under a coat of paint.
Oh I also have the Black Box TA-4J resin cockpit set as a starting point for my KAHU conversion.
Cheers
Anthony

Superb work Anthony. I'm very impressed. Is that a Hasegawa kitset? I don't think you mentioned the brand of the base kit did you?

Yes Dave, it is the Hasegawa TA-4J kit combined with the Hi-Grade parts from their OA-4M release, photoetch, whitemetal etc....

Barnsey, at least it meant she didn't have to go through the indignity of being stuck in a hangar for 5 years waiting to be bought by someone else, or cut up for scrap. ;D

Thanks guys!
I appreciate the comments very much. I have done some masters and have sent them off to "Scale Aircraft Conversions" for them to be produced into their line.
Boy I would love to buy one of the Airforces Skyhawks..................I would care for it!!!!!

No reason why not Anthony...
Jeremy Clarkson bought an English Electric Lightning and plonked it in the front garden.
Mind you the wife didn't look too happy!

Looks like you're doing an absolutely stunning job! NZ6456 - Didn't some idiot crash that one? Don't want to hijack Anthony's thread and Barnsey, although you've probably been asked this a million times before already, what was it like ejecting?

I'd guess it felt pretty good after watching the a/c hit the water. Probably felt a lot better than most of the sqn did the next morning. After losing Muzz Neilson a month earlier I know my heart hit the floor when we heard '56 was down. It was about 10mins before we found out Barnsey had ejected safely and was busy paddling his raft. First live use of the single seater to save a life. There was one hell of a party in the W/O&SNCO's mess that night, the base turned a blind eye to the fact that most of us weren't eligible to be there. The armourers gin bucket was one or two or three to remember. I only made to the end of the second one, then couldnt believe it when Barnsey turned up to the S&S/Arm 'debrief' with a bottle of gin!! Sorry for the hijacking, Les.

For a backdrop for my interview with Close Up today we used my 1/32 A-4K and 1/48 A-4K models. When you see the interview look over my right shoulder and you will see at a couple of my efforts at modelling the A-4.

I am really enjoying the stories guys, thanks for passing them on!
Makes the models seem more alive when you hear stories about specific people and airframes. After all the aircraft are only part of the story.
Cheers
