I"m sure the original uSAF colour would have been kept on cost basis alone with 24 of them similar to the P3.

You're right Steve, I'm sure they would have been boring old 2/3 tone USAF grey. (which is different from the all over P-3 grey) but you never know do you Quite frankly though the last thing I wanted to build was grey F-16. There is plenty of those out there in model land. and the that scheme is pretty un exciting. Plus the Euro scheme is may favourite. The next one (long time off) will be a F-16CJ (the RNZAF traded up) . It will be either all green or the dark Grey liek the C-130/Huey/P-3 After all it is a what if....................

Nice model...i have a 1/48 dutch airforce f16 in light grey...I note that your f16 has the old RAF style of roundels...I.m not sure but i believe those were all relaced by the low tone grey like AUS US etc all saved dollars I suspect using less colours. Interseting to keep in mind when we purchased the P3bs we keep the USN colour pattern...which was a good combination...mindyou the new dark grey ...darker than the AUS ones I think look sinister...Its a wonder they have not been painted green with a rainbow finflash and dove!

An interesting thing about the 2 tone finflash that I noticed on the RNZAF Museum Andover and I see again on the skyhawk above, is the the red and blue stripes dont actually touch - there is a blank strip about 20mm wide through the middle. I'm guessing that both colours were masked at the same time and a strip of tape was left down the middle! most 2 tone decals Ive seen have the colours touching, which I guess is logical, but aparently not how they were actually done. A little bit of trivia anyway...

Yeah, I was surprised when I saw it as well. (I was specifically checking the Andover markings for my model) I can see the reasoning why there is the gap, and although Im not sure whether it would show in 1/72, it may be worth considering for larger scales. The Andover Fin Flash:

The gap is there because its the low viz version of the fin flash, the white having been omitted. A small gap was the norm in place of the white.

That is truly awesome Calum I like the burner nozzle effects. The instructor in the back looks like hes about to hit the poor student over the head! ;D

It was much easier with the Phantom. At various model shows here the number of people who "remember seeing the NZ Phantoms at airshows all over the UK" is truely amazing!

. . . the number of people who "remember seeing the NZ Phantoms at airshows all over the UK" is truely amazing! That's the skill of our Helen - the image of a strike wing, without the distressing cost and mess of the real thing!

Calum its the Revell 1/48th scale kit which I think was originally a Hasegawa tooling. The model was made for the Bolton show about three years ago when their competition theme was 'Phantoms' and that seemed a good enough excuse to make an RNZAF one. I serialed it with the numbers that were ultimatley applied to Skyhawks. I often display it with the F-16 also in RNZAF markings in a European one scheme just confuse the locals.
