Is there a 1/48 Iroquois, and are there any low viz (ie current black) markings for RNZAF Iroquois?
Having just spent two weeks in the field with 3 sqn on ex Steel Talon, I would like to try my hand at an RNZAF Iroquois.
I'd also be open to any other scale if there is anything available.

Hi Phil
There are 2 options for the Iroquois in 48th scale. ESCI produced one many years ago and it was reissued by by someone else later(but just cant think who at the moment). Then there is the Italeri one which is redily available. Both are really nice kits, although some have said that the old ESCI one is supposed to be slightly better.
As for decals, a company called Whirley Bits do a decal sheet for 3 sqn as well as Hawkeye models.
Hope that helps
Anthony

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for the leads, but I couldn't find the hawkeye set, and the whirly birds set that I found is for the old 3 tone scheme.
Does anyone know if Kiwi colours do a set of black markings?

Hi again Phil
I just had a check of my Model Alliance ones from Whirley Bits and also included are decals for the overall green scheme also which has everything in black. This will work fine for the current grey ones I am sure after just looking a photos and the decals.
Although Kiwi colours probably have done them also
cheers
Anthony

I'll try and track down those model alliance ones, perhaps the ones I saw were a different set.
Cheers

Failing that, could easily add them to the Stinger Decals line...

Found these: www.hobbycentre.com.au/HAWKNZ02.htmlI've ordered the 1/32 and the 1/48 sets, hopefully they have them in stock. There are a few esci UH1Ds on ebay in 1/48, and some Revell 1/32 scale kits, anyone know anything about the Revell kits? Any good?

The Revell 1/32nd scale kit is fairly old but pretty nice for its time. Things like the pilots' seats are basic, and the panel could do with a spruce up. It has raised rivets but they're fine. The doors can all be posed open or shut.
I have one partly built somewhere. I was going to superdetail it with all the gear like alpine packs, etc that our ones actually carried, but never got it finished. It's a nice big kit so good size if you want to add detail.

Does it come with M23 gun mounts and M60s for the quarter compartment, and/or a winch?
Does anyone know if the 1/48 scale kits include either of these?
Thanks
Phil

There are no guns or winches with the 32nd scale kit - or at least in the old 1980's release I have. I know it has been released since a few times so maybe some were added in? However I think Tamiya makes an 1/35th scale M60 in this set www.tamiya.com/english/products/list/35mm_img/35133m.jpgITEM 35133 U.S. Modern Infantry Set

Unfortunately those 60s aren't the right type, the Iroquois have the D model, which has no butstock or pistol grip (easily removed) and no forward handguard (impossible to remove!). I'm pretty sure there is a kit out there with M23s and M60Ds, since I'm sure I've read about it on one of the forums in the dim and distant past when I had no interest in building an Iroquois!.
What scale was being discussed I have no idea, but I was hoping I'd be lucky enough that one of the kits (either 48th or 32nd) might have them.

Hi Dave,
Cheers! Thats all good info, especially the cobra company link.
I think the C model is the short cabin type, but that's ok, I'm happy to use the Revell kit, or the 48th scale ones from either Esci or italeri. (I'm kind of leaning towards the 48th scale ones).
The first link on hyperscale to the Revell D shows the M23 subsystem quite well, although the poor guy has mounted the upright posts upside down... I'll be getting the cobra company M23 sets, since they make them in 1/32 and 1/48, whichever scale I finally go for. It's not quite the same as the version we have, but a little work will soon fix that.
Thanks again.

No problem.
I'm looking forward to seeing photos of the model when you get started.

lol, you mean along with all the other models I have to start?
My Girlfriend says I am a model kit collector, not a modeler.

Yes, my modelling hobby has developed into that of a collector and not a builder over the years, but I hope to turn the trend around a bit more soon.

Collectors are the natural enemy of the modeller :-)
