At Ferrymead this week we acquired some material from a deceased estate and included was a ZB-1 homing device.
This box was unknown to any of us but a quick Google turned up this to be the aircraft-borne side of the YE-ZB homing system of the USN carriers to guide their aircraft back to base.
Does one of our authorities here have a lead on this unit being here in NZ. Is it likely that any or some of our F4Us or TBFs could have arrived with such installed due to USN having been party to their construction?
