Committee questions rising cost of fighter plane purchase.
The estimated cost of buying new fighter planes for the Australian Air Force has risen by $670 million in the past three years.
The Federal Government is planning on purchasing 100 Joint Strike Fighter planes from the United States.
Australian Defence Force chief Angus Houston has told a Senate Committee that the price of each new plane has risen from $US40 million to $US45 million.
Labor Senator John Faulkner questioned the ADF chief about the price hike.
He asked Air Marshal Houston what the original, average price of each plane was when the project started.
"I think when we, when, if we go back three years we were talking in the order of about 40 million US but I would like to take it on notice and come back to you," Air Marshal Houston said.
