Just saw on Fox news overnight that the RAAF used a large captured Nth Korean Fishing vessel as target practice for the F111s...The vessel was confiscated in 2003 with drugs importing involved. The aussie foreign minister Downer stated there was a message behind the aerial bombing practice....do we know more ....stand off weapons??

There was a clip on the news this morning, and they looked like laser-guided bombs rather than anything like a stand-off. The press seem to allude the message is for the North Korean Government, which is apparently into the drug trade to finance its failure to run its own country! This from the Sydney Morning Herald: "F-111 strikers bomb heroin boat Pong Su The North Korean freighter used to smuggle 150kg of heroin into Australia three years ago now rests on the ocean's bottom, destroyed by a pair of laser-guided bombs." www.abc.net.au/reslib/200603/r77978_222682.asx

why didnt they just bomb it 3 years ago when it was trying to get away, that would sent more of a signal than blowing it up now

In case anyone missed it, here's the video of the sinking. (Sometimes the video won't kick in properly at Photobucket, so you may need to hit the "refresh" button when this happens.)
