Although its sad the Spitfire has left our shores it is great that it has gone to an organization who will fly it regularly and that it is still pretty close to NZ. Must come over and see it sometime. Its a real kiwi icon thats for sure

There were four people in Crowded House during the Woodface album period, two of them were the Finn brothers. Both Kiwis. So, outnumbered my friend.
I don't actually mind Temora keeping the Spitfire at all, so long as it remains airworthy and in good condition, as it is cheaper for me to get there to see it than it is to go to Wanaka!
I'd love it if Temora would perhaps consider allowing TB863 to visit NZ on occassions as guest for such airshows as Wanaka or Omaka - especially if they also bring it's new stablemate for the trip too. Sir Tim certainly hinted in his speech at Wanaka we may see the Spit again. With the billionaire owner it now has, easily done isn't it? And with so many of Mr Lowy's chain of malls throughout this country, his NZ profits alone could afford a trip/tour across the Tasman surely.
Craig, have the Aussies claimed you now too? Or are you claiming to be an Aussie now???
Actually, I am hoping that David might bring the Spitfire back to NZ at some stage, but I imagine that insurance and transport costs would be extremely high for such endeavours.
There was a bit of talk about this at Wanaka. The wing mounts on a Spitfire are made to fit each aircraft and when the wings are removed these have to be reamed out and new bolts fitted. This may prevent the aircraft moving too far. I'm not sure if this info is correct or not, but don't let this stop anyone from posting it back to us

Not strictly true.
Only if either of the holes in the fuselage spars, front and rear, or the hole in the wing boom are scored, burred or damaged is it necessary to ream oversize by .004 inch and fit a correspondingly oversize wing bolt.
