Colin and Phil, I think there is more about the NAS Albatross fire in the book "Wings Across The Sea" by Ross Gillett.
I have a copy of it at home, and if I come up with anything further I will try and post it on this site.

Great phoos - I have never seen the backward roundal before! If you have some high res scans please send them to me too at don.simms@xtra.co.nz so I can add them to the collection for the RNZAF Skyhawk history book I am working on. Cheers. Don

I was just quoting from recent tales told to me about the fire. I have been concentrating on the history of the A4G - so any other events have taken a back seat. Just to add some more recent recall. I think the arsonist died not long after being released into his father's custody. The sailor had contracted an illness that firstly caused the lesions and his subsequent death. However I have not been able to confirm this with simple internet searches. Phil.

Don, I'm sure there are Official RNZAF photos of the A-4G with the backwards roundel floating around. I have a funny feeling that I have a 5 x 7 b/w copy of one of these photos - only problem is that it's in Christchurch!
If you can wait until next April, I'm happy for you to make a copy of it.

I just checked my photos of the A-4G's when they arrived at Ohakea in 1984 and none of them show the backwards roundel (they are all front on shots), so I will take you up on the April 07 offer!
