Hornet Down Under by Andrew McLaughlin. Softcover - 164 pages (A4 size). ISBN 0-646-44398-4. First published in 2005 by Phantom Media, Canberra. Released to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of the F/A-18A Hornet's acceptance into RAAF service, this book is a worthwhile addition to the library of anyone with an interest in military aviation. Contains many excellent full-colour photographs, line drawings and artworks. Although this book is predominately about the RAAF selection process, procurement, assembly and operation (including Upgrade Program) of the Hornet, it also goes contains extensive detail about the the development of the Hornet in general (from YF-17 stage) and the different models that have appeared since the Hornet was first introduced into US Navy service in 1981. There is also a section devoted to each of the various operators of the Hornet, and the countries which also came very close to selecting the Hornet for service. Overall a very enjoyable read and well worth the purchase price.
