According to an article in the (just published) March 2023 of the AHSNZ Aero Historian written by the late Douglas Wood on his early days working at the Auckland Aero Club:
"We had five aircraft, all Gipsy Is, each a different colour in the squares on the turtleback. They were: ZK-AAL red, ZK-AAK blue, ZK-AAE green, ZK-AAU orange and ZK-AAT yellow"
So there appears, in that instance, to have been no standard fleet colour.

That is interesting, thanks Peter. I have seen lots of photos of those Gipsy Moths with the chequers and wondered the colour/s.
I have not received a copy of that issue yet.
