Must be too many over-enthusiastic pilots who like dragging the tail in former-Soviet Bloc countries? ;D

Nice shots of the IL62, otherwise known, for obvious reasons, as the VC10ski, given that some industrial espionage took place at the time the VC10 was born.
I may, I suspect, be perhaps the only Site member who has actually flown in one, owned and operated by Aeroflot!
I was in Singapore 1974-76 and wanted to take my wife and two girls on a holiday to the UK and Europe, and shopped around for the best fare deal, as you do. There were all sorts on offer, from now defunct airlines such as British Caledonian and others, but none of the better known airlines came close to the fares offered by Aeroflot, which also threw in a free stopover in Moscow. I had to get permission for that of course!!
The route was Singapore,-Bangkok-Delhi, Moscow, then London two days later. The Bangkok stop, I gather was for 'technical' reasons, i.e fuel, so the 10ski didn't have the same range as the VC10. I notice in that photo it has been re-engined since I last saw one.
There wasn't a lot if communication between the crew and the passengers [and the food was awful!], but I did note that the descent from 10,000 meters or whatever into Delhi was accomplished without any further power use after the initial reduction. Spot on!
The VC10, incidentally ,in which I've also flown in RAF service when I bludged a ride back to Singapore from Brize, was, and still is probably, the fastest airliner built. Not a lot of people know that!

As mentioned in another thread NGK is minus the Pacific Wave and was recently repainted Graham from Christchurch tells me. It was at Auckland as I arrived back from Gisborne so I waited for it's departure. Pacific Wave gives way to Manukau Wave as you can see by the white tops on the water in the back ground. Colin

Air Vanuatu 737 800 is the same as Air Pacific, Qantas and Pacific Blues 737 that are operated into Auckland. They are abit longer than the 737 400 which was the largest of the 737 "classics" (Qantas's Jet connect subsidiary operate some of these in NZ) The 737 900 is even longer at 42 metres long...compared with the 737 100 which was about 28-30 metres long. Note the 737 800 now built with standard blended wing lets and no eye-brow windows.

Saw that Embraer today parked outside Air Centre One Colin, although I didn't know what it was at the time. A very unusual APU exhaust at the rear. And, I have to say, a typically cloudy day at Auckland again.

Nice. A truly awesome sight to behold, and one that is slowly but surely becoming rarer.

Very nice, Colin. The 767 isn't quite as common anymore, is it? I remember when they ruled the roost on the Trans-Tasman routes, but now it has been surpassed by the A320.
