Footage from the delayed helicopter champs held at North Shore today - which I completely forgot about until now - will be a "special closer" at the end of 3 News tonight.
Cheers, Stu.

I missed most of the report but caught the beer bottle opening trick, brilliant. Who was the pilot? He had a steady hand.

Just caught it, thanks for the heads up Stu, the bottle opening was very cool but who won the event over all?

RNZAF pilot Jethro Tull attempting to display the 1,400 hp Rotary Hoe. I guess the normal traffic call would have changed from "crossing 09 27" to "cutting 09 27" Feel free to groan now

Just practicing for the Young Farmer of the Year Competition - seeing if they can get a nice straight furrow for the ploughing challenge.

That looks serious. Would that do damage to the tail rotor assembly?
Perhaps they'd run out of smoke grenades and improvised?

The sting did its job. A bit of tail rotor blade damage, plus personal pride took a dent too. Note the crew seating: Pilot Up Front + Guy In Back. Could this be the 3 SQN knucklehead crew configuration? ;D ;D ;D rnzaf.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=Postwar&action=display&thread=1206741372Seriously, tho, the rules for the comp must obviously restrict mil-style flying. When was the last time you so a Huey flying with the side doors closed? That just stops the crewman doing his job.

That's a very good point regarding the doors.

Great photos. Why do the rules not allow the doors to be removed? Surely the visibility in a small civilian helicopter would also be restricted because of this?

Stinger strikes happen at the most inopportune time.
I remember one outside the 42Sqn hangar as they deployed the assault team to kidnap CO42 to deliver the annual morning tea invitation.
