Greetings,
I'm heading for my honeymoon down in Queenstown in 2 weeks time and was wondering, is there anything of aviation interest down there? We're driving down from ChCh and are going to stop in Wanaka (of course !!) and have a looksie.
Also, we're having our wedding at Southwards Car Museum and I'm hoping to get a shot of us with the Tiger Moth and Vampire (if she'll let me !! ;D)
Cheers TNZ

Hi TNZ,
If the missus would let you, you could pop round the corner to Mandeville and come see us at the Croydon Aircraft Company maybe go for a flight in the Tiger or even the Fox Moth together if you wanted. Have a look around the restoration facility.

Well, I've made a decision. I'm going to surprise Bridget with a drive across from Queenstown to Mandeville (about 1 hour) and take her up in the Fox Moth of Croydon's. I promise I'll take lots of pictures there (and in the air !!). Sound good? TNZ PS: Thanks for the idea, DragonflyDH90.

And yes that sounds like an amazing surprise Chris. The Fox Moth is a very rare aircraft, the chance of a flight is I'm sure rarer. It'll be something you will both not forget.

If you give me a little warning, perhaps a call the day before (or even the one before that). I will make sure Im available, I usually am (Im always there mucking around with something or other), and hope the weather plays the game. I was flying the Fox today (as well as the Tiger) with a couple, the wife had bought hubby one of our flight vouchers for his birthday, big smiles all round..

Thanks guys for the great comments !! I was typing this last night when she came into the study and asked me what I was doing on the PC. I quickly shut this window down and said "oh nothing just browsing at p0rn !!".....ooops maybe not the best cover story !!! Anyway, I shall do that , DFDH90. I know the Fox-Moth flying must be very weather dependant. I am really looking forward to going up in it though, and she's getting to be quite an aviation enthusiast too. She loved WOW 2004 and Masterton Airshow recently. Can't wait,....oh and for the wedding too ;D TNZ

The Queenstown motor museum has a Tiger Moth I think.
The OFMC Yak should be in Wanaka by the the time you get there.
.........and,oh yeah, by the way..........Congrats on the upcoming nuptials. ;D

The Yak-3/9 from a Yak-11, restoration/conversion by Pioneer. If it is in the Hanna hangar it is visible from the road through the floor to ceiling display windows on the back of the hangar along with his Stearman and Harvard (NZ1037 which he has bought off the Matthewsons at Ranfurly)

Easy solution mate, drop her off at the awesome Puzzle Place down the road and she can get lost in the maze for an hour or two. Tell her you're starting from the other corner and will meet her in the middle - then shoot off to Luggateairfield. Cool plan?? ;D
