Awesome. The first shot in that lot is great.
It looks as if the Chaika likes North Islands skies as much as South Island ones.

It was a fairly long walk with the Camel in the heat. At least the AgCat cooled things down with a bit of water drifting across.

Brilliant photos chaps. I really like the ones of the Dragon Rapides Colin. I guess it's a homecoming for ZK-AKY, it used to be beased there didn't it? Was AKU at the event too? I guess three DH89's together is too much to ask. No AKU was not there. I am not sure of AKY history and there was the DH 84 Dragon leading the formation of twins behind the Tiger Moths at one time. A shot of AXI taking off. Colin

Yeah AKY was based at Masterton for quite a while, several people mentioned over the weekend that they were glad to see her there. Not sure why AKU didnt turn up, rumour was maintenance concerns and possibly no pilot.

That Dragon has to be one of this country's most gorgeous vintage aircraft, after the Dragonfly that is.
Have you flown the Dragon Ryan? If so, how does it compare to the Rapide and Dragonfly?
ZK-AKY was part of the SVAS in the early days. It wore various schemes with them, including a gorgeous Monteiths beer sponsorship colour scheme. I fell in love with Monteiths beer about ten years before I ever got to taste it!

I havnt had the chance to fly the Dragon, hopefully the chance will come about. It would be nice to have a comparison. Speaking with Stan over the weekend and also speaking with a friend of mine who flys one in the UK, they are not the most brilliant of aircraft. It was quite a challenge to formate on at the show with the Rapide/Dominie, its not quick, and hanging on the back of the formation with the Tigers is always a challenge.....

Cheers Ryan.
Is the DH90 the fastest of the three? It looks like it'd be a better performer.
