Not counting RNZAF aircraft, which aircraft (plural) would you rate as being the most impressive on the NZ airshow circuit at the moment?
Not just warbirds either, civil stuff too. And I don't mean visiting aircraft like Svetlana, they have to be NZ based.
My top five would be:
Thunder Mustang (fast, noisy and very well flown in displays by Brian Gault, and now Simon too)
ZK-NUT - the Cadbury's purple-coloured aerobatic aircraft, amazing flown by Doug Brooker. The things he does are unreal and easily as impressive as the Russians at Wanaka
Corsair - So nice, so historic, and expertly flown by Keith Skilling, one of my true favourites
LA-9 - this has to be one of the world's greatest fighters, and sounds so good
Pitts Special - Any Pitts is nice to see but I am always impressed watching Richard Hood in the Pitts. I hope now that he's sold his he'll be able to continue displaying in someone else's
What's your top five?

Blast, I forgot the Hunter. That would come just above the Pitts for me.
Sam, the Trojan is still on the scene isn't it? It displayed at Tauranga last year.

Interesting question: Fokker Triplane (The group that flies at Classic Fighters) LA9 Corsair DH-2 Sopwith Camel WW1 biase a bit here but I get to see a few of them and the more I see them the more they impress me. Here is a photo of three out of five Triplanes and a good reason to visit Classic Fighters, there is nowhere else in the world you will see a site like this.

As it was mentioned on the forum recently that there are two more new Triplanes on the register, is it possible we may see seven in the air together this year?

How about a Reno style race: P51 or P40 races the Thunder Mustang?

Wanaka did a Reno style race with Harvrads back in 1992 I think it was, which was quite impressive. Maybe you could convince them to bring it back for the big boys toys. However insurance may not allow it.

I sincerely hope that this time, at Omaka at least, there is some organisation going into a meeting of minds in the beer tent on Saturday night! Let's see if we can raise it a bit with all the lies we'll tell!

I mentioned the Trojan because it seems to be somewhat irregular in appearance these days, when in the early-mid nineties it was fairly common.
I had completely forgotten about the Mk XIV Spitfire. It certainly made a big impression in its short display life.
That reminds me of the Gustav that was here at the same time. It was cool, but I don't remember its display as being particularly mind blowing.

Hm , no mention of the Hurricane ? I think it was Omaka 03 they had P40 , P51d , Hurricane , Spitfire , and some radials ( boomerang ? ) all airbourne at once . I was gutted when the spit nearly didnt start -- the combo was priceless !

A great deal depends on the pilot and what you like . I was really impressed with the Spitfire/109 displays at Wanaka by the Hanna's but was so disappointed with the way the Wildcat was displayed another year . The LA9 is great , I have always been a fan of the Spitfire but like the P51 you see them so often . I think the best in recent years was when the Poli's first appeared at Wanaka , They were just so different , and Wanaka is a world class show , absolutely outstanding .

The problem with Wanaka , I feel, is that it has become a victim of its own success, and in doing so, has priced itself off the market for a lot of people, myself included! The last one worked out as equivalent cost of travelling to Sydney for a week, and I live in Lower Hutt! Market demand has driven the cost of attending up to joke points! It is actually cheaper to go to Avalon from Wellington , than to Wanaka!
I also get the distinct feeling that we've seen the very best of Wanaka, and as most of what I would consider to be the reasons for going, have been sold overseas.
