Remember that some of the ACs living on base aren't that much older than you are (not that that's an excuse, but they are not always that mature in their outlook), and the older ones should know better but don't always.
We (serving pers) do think it's a little strange that you spend your holidays doing things that we only do grudgingly because we get paid for it (like marching and parades - you'll note we don't actually march around base at all). Things like making bedpacks and having stand by inspections were things we only did on recruit course (well we did have inspections on basic enge, mechs and techs too, but not once you are away from GTW).
There was nothing more annoying when I lived on, than being woken up on a Saturday or Sunday morning with 'left, right, left, right, left, right left' outside you window at some stupidly early time as the cadets were marched to breakfast! Can't you guys march in step without being shouted at?
As far as the mess queue goes, when I lived on there was rarely any problem, the cadets would almost always let you go first, and their NCOs and Officers would tell them to. I can only think of a couple of times when they didn't, and generally they soon got the message. Remember the mess is our home, so being made to queue behind a group of visiting school kids who are eating all your food does tend to get on your nerves.
I worked with all three types of cadets in my job as a photographer, having to take many group photos for them over the last few years. At least the ATC don't actually think they are in the airforce, unlike some of the army cadets who think they are actually in the army...The green ones seem a little odd, but this applies to the regular force army as well!
All the guys I know who were in the ATC reckon it was a great experience (there are plenty of them in the air force, they just don't admit it very often...), so good on you.
