Dave, looking forward to meeting you Feb 2nd. Have no details on Whitianga; do you have a contact? I have the video and it is well worth the wait.
Cheers, Simon

I didn't know about the Whitianga show till last week, when my mate came back from there and said he saw posters about for it. I did a websearch and it seems the RNZAC are running it, as they have competitions there all week. Not sure who to contact though - someone at Ardmore should know I'd think.

Simon and Ryan, great to have you guys at SportAvex, I'm sure both your displays will be highlights - although Trevor Parker has arranged an awesome variety of stuff - Unfortunately some of the bigger noisier aircraft (hint - locally based kerosene burner) I'm not allowed to disclose yet as some details are yet to be finalised. Make sure you come and introduce yourself to me - I'll likely be in the SAA display hangar for a fair portion of the day.

"I'll likely be in the SAA display hangar for a fair portion of the day. "
Apart from when you're bringing me cups of tea on the flightline ;D
Is that a temporarily-locally-based-enroute kerosene burner, hope so...

"Is that a temporarily-locally-based-enroute kerosene burner, hope so... " No confirmation on that temporary one, but a slightly older, similarly high performance kero burner with a distinctive "blue note"..... get what I mean?

Would love to see a B2 at a kiwi airshow (a mate of mine saw one in Canada) but being stealthy it must be evil (like the Waihopai "spy" base) and Helen and Jeanette would not like it. It needs to be painted lime green or friendly, sunny yellow before one would ever get here - not only that it is Nuclear capable!

Bruce, this is the only B2 that Jeanette and Helen would approve of.

;D ;D Now that's funny Craig! I remember back in 1995 there was one doing an airshow or two in Australia (I don't recall where). The organisers of the Wings Over Waikato airshow stated a Stealth Bomber would be making an appearance at their show, which was about a week after the Aussie appearance. They also publicly announced a Russian Su27 display team would be there, something-or-other Knights they were called, as they were touring the world at the time. My mate and I went and paid big money for Gold Pass seats, but we were ripped off. The Russians didn't show because the organisers refused to accomodate the crews in a hotel!!! That was the only reason they didn't come. Of course this was in the press just before the show that they weren't coming due to tightfistedness, and it put off the crowds from attending, so they lost money anyway, as opposed to the measely hotel bill which would have seen lots of money roll in. They'd been promoting the team being there for weeks before, generating interest, before they pulled the plug. As for the Stealth Bomber, it was a bloody hoax. The annoying commentator kept saying it was 10 minutes away, crossing the Tasman; five minutes away, etc. He also bigged it up with technical stats, etc. We were thinking that this was going to be worth the money we paid. Then they let off a big pyro on the airfield and he says "Did you see the Stealth? It's on it's way home now." You could literally hear the crowd groan, and I was really peed off by it. The rest of the show was OK, but just another show, nothing special (except Ken Hayr and Tim Wallis's "Knights of The Air" tailchase which was superb). After the show it was revealed that the organisers didn't pay a lot of the pilots who exhibited, and Waikato has not had a major airshow since as their name became mud. Prior to the show everyone was touting it as to become the alternate year to Wanaka, but now Omaka has taken that role off Waikato, thanks to the Waikato's mishandling. Good on Omaka, but it's sad we don't have a major airshow here.

The organisers of that airshow were probably very lucky the crowd didn't lynch them after that performance!
It's so hard for organisers in Australia and New Zealand to attract stuff like the Russian Sukhois/MiGs or USAF Stealth aircraft to their airshows because we're so far away. The logistics behind such ventures are huge, even the USAF bringing two F-15C and two F-16C aircraft to Avalon from their bases in Japan is a huge task. Mind you, they didn't mind flying a B-52 out from Guam to do passes over the show on two of the three public days!
