Nice work Calum.
Is that one you've been working on in dribs and drabs for a while, or did you start and finish it in a short time frame?

I love the Hurricane. The attention to detail in your work is brilliant. Good kit review on your site too.

Thanks guys,
Craig, I'm incapable of finsihing something quickly. that in itself is a matter of much frustration for me :-)
My next kit I should complete is Cobber Kain's rag wing Hurricane Mk 1 . IF I can sort the paint out.
Then a 485 Sqn MK IX Spitfire.

Calum, I know exactly what you mean.
I'm very good at starting things and not finishing them at all - so you're one step ahead of me. ;D

Try breaking your airbrush near the end of painting and having to wait a week for a replacement (whole new a/b)....god forbid getting a replacement part

Awesome work Calum!
Your photography is excellent also.
I used to know a lovely gent called Reg McKenzie (kiwi)who was the CO of 6sqn for a time I think he said after leaving 123 sqn he volountered (he said you had to volounteer to go to 6sqn due to the dangerous nature of the flying) to fly the Tank Busting Hurris.
He and his lovely wife Joan lived in Merrivale and he had some fasinating stories. He flew "X" all the time as he jokingly said X marks the spot and always took off last to make sure all the lads got up ok.
We were at Tea one night on a second story resturaunt and he said that most often they would fly through villages so low that if we were to look out the window now you would have only seen the prop tip/arc. Aparently once there was a Panzer division arrive and assemble in a town square. Someone was tasked to do a run down the main road with a camera running. Reg mentioned that it was so dangerous he wouldnt send one of the lads into anything he wasnt keen to do himself.....so off he went.
Well he said all hell broke loose as he dived down into the village. At the end of the road, sure enough there was a barage of fire awaiting him. He let rip with the 40mm cannon. It was all over so fast. Only when he got back and viewed the footage did he realise what he had done and went straight to the bar!
Gosh, he had some great stories, like polishing the planes up to lay some bets on and do a spot of air racing. Ferrying beer once and the other bloke(cant remember his name) switched to the beer filled tank and starved the plane. He belly landed the plane and Reg circled then went back for a rescue party. All the guys were really annoyed as when they arrived to pick him up the hapless pilot got himself completely pickled on the booze while he waited for them!! Oh and the plane got repaired.
What a great guy, I still miss him very much. He never used to talk much about the war until we met. I regularly took him out to see the boys at Air NZ while they were rebuilding the Hurricane. He had tears in his eyes as he sat in the cockpit for the first time in 50 odd years. I think he enjoyed talking about his very long flying career in the Air Force, especially his time with 6sqn.
Sadly he died 6 months before Tims Hurricane flew. He really wanted to see her fly and it wasnt until a short time later that an ex 6sqn plane flew again and I found out that Rob Lamplough has the substantial remains of another one of his 6sqn tank busting machines...............bugger!
Sorry to have waffled on Calum, I didnt want to take anything away from your beautiful masterpiece. You just opened up some nice memories for me again. Thanks
Anthony

Super memories there Anthony. There are so many great stories out there, and sadly day by day they grow fewer.
Do you know whether any other kiwis flew with No. 6 Squadron? I wonder who flew 'U' HV663 regularly and its history?
