Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks Richard.
I know that modellers can get printed decal sheet of the various patterns as it would be a nightmare masking it out in small scale too.

When ZK-FOK was based at Admore I had to carry out some repairs to the fabric. At that stage it had the 5 colour lozenge scheme (Which isnt accurate for a DR1) which was painted on to the ceconite fabric - yes individually masked and painted! after replacing the tapes over a couple of wing ribs I had to then do the paint touch up - what a nightmare. there were a couple of things in my favour however, some tins of the original paint was available, which saved colour matching, and pattern did mean that you didnt have to worry about blending in the touch up, you just repainted each "lozenge". I had to do similar repairs to the fabric on several occaisions. At one time, just before the Air Expo airshow at Auckland (I think) I didnt have time to do the paint touch ups, so it went out with the silver dope showing. lots of people remarked how "authentically weathered" it looked!

Cheers Gavin! Some really good shots there, I particularly like the second-to-last of the Bellamy Pfalz. I'm heading out to the AHC today to do some detail shots of her - I have a 1:72 kit of the D.IIIa waiting for the "Blue Max" treatment. Eek, that lozenge is going to be *so* much fun!
Dave I agree. I'd take a D.IIIa over the D.VII any day. Mind you, I've heard that the D.VII is a real sprightly performer, so it'd be interesting to compare them.

This is one of my favourite Triplane shots, not sure why but thats what makes photography fun, you never know what you will get that appeals. It is in this months Pacific Wings and they have some great Classic Fighters coverage. More shots to follow very soon

That photo makes it look like you could reach out and shake the pilot's hand.

Here is another close up. This Triplane is the one painted as the aircraft belonging to Weiss. (White Fuselage)

Wonderful angles in that last shot. I'm sure the pilots and the groundcrew, not to mention the owners of these planes are very chuffed with your air to air work!

Fantastic shots Gavin. I love the grape vines in the back ground could be in France or Germany. Great detail on the aircraft and pilot. I look forward to seeing more.

I think its well worth mentioning for those looking at Gavins last shot , that if you WERE the Red Barron , and glanced over your right shoulder , then this could be pretty much be exactly as the man himself would have have seen !

Thanks Dave, that'll be much appreciated.
I probably should take out a subscription though, as quite a number of times some good sounding articles that have been featured in Aviation News have been mentioned on here.
