regarding the mossie props earlier in the thread, when I used to work with Owyn Fenner at Gulf Aeronautics whilst he and Glynn Powell were collecting mossie bits, we discussed Mossie Props and Owyn told me the RNZAf aircraft towards the end of their flying life were fitted with Corsair propellers as the broader paddle blades improved performance. Not sure how accurate this statement is - the blades are quite different, and there certainly wasnt a shortage of DH spares - there were plenty attached to the spare airframes at Woodbourne! I dont think the Hudson blades look quite right, but they'll do until something better is found.

I reckon it looks great with props on, even if they're not exactly right. Once the spinners are fitted it should look nearly finished.
The little Tui Sport is really coming along. Is that red-brown colour the actual finsih colour or just a dope undercote? I know the original had a dark fuselage which might have been red but I never imagined it to be like that sort of colour.
I see the Ventura is on the pad, so no work is being done yet to rip the pad up. Too wet and cold at the moment I guess.

Richard is right about Joe Jandals not noticing the fine points about propellors. How many of us have ever noticed that the prop on the Spitfire replica at CHCH airport is wrong handed? It is a reprofiled HS 748 prop off a RR Dart which apparently spins the other direction to a Merlin.

Can anyone identify this Vampire pod? Photo taken at the "storage " area, by the Zoo, about 1980. It's a Trainer, but, which one. I assume it is now long gone....

Nope, it had come from the chippies section of 1 TTS where they learnt how to do repairs to it. You can see the practice patches on it. MOTAT (and Tom Crail) just gave it their usual level of care.

Bit of a minor mystery with this paint job. The tail booms are from a T 55 but painted as NZ 5707 which is a T 11 which was not WFU until March 1972 but the photo was taken at 1 TTS in August 1967 The probable answer is that the booms are from NZ 5705 (INST 190) and were used as a training aid for the S & S trainees. Why not painted as INST 190? Presumably because they wante to teach the trainees how to mark out the normal serials ADF serials state that NZ 5705 was gifted to MOTAT on 17 Dec 1962 but I am not convinced of that as I don't think MOTAT was in existance then (I lived about 200 yards away from the Western Springs site from 1946 until 1967 and my mother lived there until 2 years ago) and I don't think MOTAT started until about 1964. no doubt someone can tell us. 1972 would be more likely and match the date the Vampires were withdrawn and therefore no longer needed trained planewrights to repair them.

MOTAT began on June 5th, 1960, according to a quick glance at my MOTAT book.
Note the booms have the red tail scheme too.

I'll have a look at my photos and see if I can work out when the first aircraft arrived there. The first exhibits there were two small locos followed shortly after by some tramcars.
Any theories on the clash of dates of the tail booms and fuselage pod? As they are T 55 they can't have come from any other aircraft except 05. Unless the 1962 date was some form of "letter of intent" or similar.

Certainly are, doing the recon in the Boer War battle at MOTAT this year. Thanks for the link. In case people are wondering, various links for re-enactment groups that you see at MOTAT Airfield can be found at www.ww2reenactors.co.nz/www.hrs.org.nz/hicketypip.tripod.com/default.htmAnyone have ideas for using aircraft in these battles? If the Bell 47 is in town, a Korean dustoff?
