The SAS spent millions of dollars when they took over former No. 1TTS. Now it's a total tip. I think it was the messiest part of the base. I had hoped to walk round to the school and see where we used to parade, etc. but on seeing it from a distance and the fact it looked like someone's company in there, I decided not to bother.
A lot of the MQ homes on Hobsonville are prewar I think. They're certainly more stylish than the latter 1950's MQ's that look like any old state house. I'd love to see photos of the base in the 1920's, 30's and 40's. I should buy Bee's book I suppose.
