Much you thanks all alot Apparently "6" is some magical proficiency number you have to obtain on a scale of 1 to 6 if you are a fluent speaker. The options are 6 or fail. If you fail, you get to spend even more money and speak to a real human being and get assessed on whether you spik gooderer enoughly. The point is stressed by ASL that if English isn't your first language - or a good second language - it pays to skip the automated test and take the assessed one otherwise you could be paying in the region of $350 for both of them. Righto - back to my usual unintelligible monosyllabic grunts over the comms at work

I'd be inclined to fake it with the machine so someone has to speak to me, just to confuse them when I speak excellent English and tell them their machine is busted.
