I was just reading Osprey book Modelling the Focke Wulf Fw 190A, F and G by Geoff Coughlin published in 2006. On page 75 on Museums and Collections it states "Fw 190F-8 WNr 5415 - Last known to be in New Zealand, current state unclear."
Does anybody know anything about this aircraft and were its current wereabout is??

Bloody hell! That's new to me as well. Are there any FWs back home at the moment in storage?

OK, this has got me very intrigued. If she is indeed in NZ, who owns her, where is she stored and what state is she in.
Somebody here must know something if this is true. And a jabo bird as well, very exciting.

I remember around 1996 having a look around some of the hangars at Wigram and seeing around four FW190 wings in a open top container. All looked pretty straight. I guess they were part of the Alpine collection being restored there at the time.

Yes the Alpine ones were there. However the restorer was a con artist and that venture collapsed. Sadly.

I had a look around one of the Luftwaffe Forums I frequent and found this.. I took the photo at Wanaka 96 when the company bought down the new build fuselage , and some original parts to display at the airshow. It is a VERY long story as to what happened .....short version is the manager Peter Ahrens , a Swedish national ,mis appropriated funds intended to build several 190s , including one for the Alpine Fighter Collection and one for OFMC . Both those collections were concerned at lack of progress , and eventually the Police were called to investigate , they found another type of aircraft being built secretly on the second floor of the hangar. Ahrens was deported to the U.S. where the FBI were waiting to question him about a hangar fire , that destroyed a 190 and burned the hangar to the ground. I saw the OFMC wreck in storage before an auction was held to sell off all remaining original parts at Wigram , Christchurch. There were complete , battered wings and sundry parts . I am not certain , but I believe these went back to the U.K. As for the new build fuselage , it was built to the wrong dimensions , the inspectors also found the workmanship to be sub standard . Consequently it was useless. regards Dave

Hi Dave, I never realised all this time phas3e was you. Which hangar at Wigram has a second floor? I don't recall any having even a mezzanine when I was based there.

And a staring bid of $550!
Sorry, I'm still a little confused with all this...
So there is an F-8 in the country somewhere in storage (Alpine Fighter Collection) or did it go overseas after this shonky Swede got nicked?

I've no idea Tim, but what I heard through the rumour mill was all the FW stuff was sold at auction to try to recoup losses and went to the USA. If the real Dave McDonald is reading, he might be able to fill in the details.
