I've read that 4 full scale Mustang kits have been ordered by New Zealanders the picture looks really impressive i cant wait to see some of them in the air. Im not sure if any are in the country yet. With nearly 20 Titan T51 3/4 Mustangs in various stages and a couple of own design versions we will almost have an air force of them soon.

Newest replica and based at Tyabb on the West Island is Jim Wickham's FEW P51. 'Merlin' is the second one Jim has built and has an amazing non-military paint scheme. The FEW replica is powered by a small block Chevrolet Corvette V8. The attention to detail and level of finish is testimony of Wicko's craftsmanship. It is expected to make its maiden flight shortly.

Another view of 'Merlin'. The photo's don't really convey the detail of the artist's skill. In reality it appears three dimentional, with lots of bugs and insects cascading along the fuselage and across the wings. Even a wasp being 'squashed' when the canopy is closed. We thought Wicko's Yak 52TW was impressive. This sets a completely new standard.

That's a very impressive paint job. Have you got one from further back to show the whole aircraft?

Full scale, powered by what engine? Why is the P-51 so popular as a basis for replicas and racers?

Best I can do at the mo Dave. Flyjoe it is 70% scale, composite construction and powered by a Chevrolet Corvette V8 fitted with a PSRU. It has provision for a second seat, but is a bit cramped.

Pleased to report that 'Merlin' depicted above has now flown. Not content with building and flying two FEW Mustangs, Wicko has recently imported a Stewart P51 to add to his growing collection. He now has a toy for each day of the week

Flugwerk of Germany, makers of the FW-190 copy, are producing a P-51 Mustang airframe kit called the AP-51 Palamino. A 1:1 version of the mighty Mustang using modern engineering methods that produce even better quality parts than NAA were able to make. The Flugwerk-made components are fully interchangeable with original P-51 parts. All you have to do is find a Merlin..... Here is a link : www.flugwerk.de/html/page.php?GID=20&SID=5
